INT-HERIT TRANSNATIONAL CONFERENCE INTERCOMUNALE LEIEDAL
CONSERVATION THROUGH DEVELOPMENT
How can a contemporary use of heritage buildings and sites add value to its conservation?
From 12th to 15th February, the INT-HERIT network has a new appointment on its trip to discover innovation and to share common knowledge about the way in which European cities are implementing local strategies in the cultural heritage sector.
Intercommunale Leiedal, the host partner of this transnational meeting, is a good example of intermunicipal co-operation / territorial integration, where 13 cities and municipalities of the Kortrijk region (Belgium) work together on various topics like urban planning, mobility, space for entrepreneurs, heritage, open data, housing policies, website and apps, etc.
A complete and intense Agenda has been produced for the transnational meeting and two study cases are at the centre: Spiere Swimming pool and Transfo site. In the first one, a frequent issue in the management of cultural heritage sites will be tackled, that is, how to move forward with the partially renovated places? Meanwhile, Transfo site has concentrated important investment and hard work for the last 15 years, from the municipality of Zwevegem, Leiedal, the province of West-Flanders and the Flemish Government and now, when the asset gains momentum with several initiatives and projects in full development, is time to streamline and to integrate all of them, in a new governance framework. But how to develop it?
These are some of the very interesting activities waiting for participants in this URBACT transnational meeting.
We invite you to stay tuned to the INT-HERIT experience to know details and outputs produced after the visit.
